French Moyens "medium"
A Moyen poodle is a fourth size recognized in Europe. Moyen poodles height range is around 15 - 20 inches from the feet to the shoulder and weigh about 15 - 35 pounds. Moyen poodles on the smaller size may cross into a mini poodle and those on the larger size may cross over of a standard poodle. The lifespan of a healthy French Moyen is around 12 - 15 years.
Moyen poodles are friendly, affectionate and love outdoor activities. Poodles are a social breed and are often eager to please their owners. In addition they love to form a close connection to their family. They are observant and loyal but can be on the anxious side so It is very important to encourage with training and to socialize a poodle to other dogs and humans early on after vaccinations (if your wanting to bring out in public) as Moyen poodles are indifferent to strangers. Poodles are not prone to aggressive behavior but because of their hunting lineage and high alertness they can often chase small animals, it is helpful to properly train to avoid these behaviors.
Poodles are high maintenance that have thick and curly hair which means they are hypoallergenic but also quick to tangle and matte. It is very important to brush and maintain the hair starting young to help the poodle get used to the ritual. Frequent visits to the groomers after vaccinations can help offset matted hair. Matted hair can lead to skin problems and can be painful for a poodle, if this happens the poodle will need to be shaved down. Poodles should be groomed every 6 - 8 weeks along with nail clipping. Teeth bruising should be done every other night.
Poodles are known to be a more vocal dog breed, and these dogs will bark to alert their owners of things outside or simply to express their feelings about a situation. Poodles are known for being intelligent and clever so when it comes to learning new tasks or tricks it can be a breeze. They have patience and a eager to please attitude which makes it easy for them to learn complex tricks or tasks. Because of the intelligence and high energy, Moyen poodles do need a lot of mental stimulation and exercise throughout their lives to stay happy. Sixty minutes of exercise and playtime a day should do the trick to prevent boredom and ensure they stay happy and healthy. The Moyen poodle makes an exceptional emotional support animal or therapy dog, as they are very faithful companions.
It is important to take your Moyen poodle to a vet regular and ensure they have a healthy diet and lots of exercise to prevent health issues. Health issues within Moyen poodles that they commonly encounter include allergies, hip dysplasia, luxating patella, addison's disease, periodontal disease, diabetes, epilepsy, and heart diseases.

Training
Poodles are highly intelligent, eager to please, and are quick learners. They are also headstrong, full of energy, and mischievous, which may make training a challenge. Here are few tips to help out:
> Start training early, during puppyhood
> Use positive reinforcement, such as treats and praise. Poodles love carrots, duck flavored treats, and try to stay away from rawhide
> Establish consistent rules, routines, and boundaries
> Focus on socializing your puppy with people, animals, and environments
> Provide lots of mental stimulation through agility games, puzzle toys, obstacle courses, and training exercises
> Consider professional training or obedience classes if needed
> Try to refrain from hitting or swatting your puppy, instead use proper techniques for bad behavior, such as when they use the bathroom inside- instead of smushing their nose in the pee or poop or hitting- say no potty inside and take them outside immediately
> Do not throw your puppy in the kennel for every bad behavior, this should be their safe haven and you want to establish a good connection with the kennel so they will freely go in there at night or when your away
> Use short words for training, such as when outside say "use it" for them to soil outside only
> Be patient, persistent, and maintain a positive attitude throughout the training process!
